Mural Project Preview

1. What theme could you use here at school to make your own mural that tells a unique Akins story? Be specific. Explain what subjects you will include in your mural.
A good theme might be the art students.

2. Why is this theme worth devoting time time and effort to capture? Why would other students care about this theme?
There are many artworks that are smaller and unnoticed while there are larger more noticed projects.

3. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using a phone camera to do this project?
Some advantages would be accessibility and size, while a disadvantage would be quality.

4. What are the advantages and disadvantages to using an SLR camera to do this project?
While it is not as portable or accessible as a phone, it still captures with better quality.

5. Should we use phones or SLR cameras for this project? Why?
We should use the cameras when we have access to them but if one begins to fall behind, then the phone.

Lines and Simplicity

This image demonstrates both Line and Simplicity, because of the lines in the background and the simplicity of the background.
1. How well did you follow the rule?
I followed both rules very well in my opinion because it has lines leading to the subject and a simple background.

2. What is the subject?
The subject is the girl in the center of the image.

3. Is it clear to people looking at your photos what the subject is?
Yes because there is nothing obscuring the image or distracting the your eyes

4. If you didn't follow the rule well, what could you had done differently?
I probably could have attempted to make the image straighter.

Framing

This image shows a good example of framing because of the rail providing a small frame.

1. Somewhat because it has a somewhat noticeable frame, but does not wrap around the image.

2. The subject is the guy in the center with a red shirt.

3. Not entirely as there are some other people in the image.

4. I could have found something to act a better and more noticeable frame.

Africa

I chose this image because I felt it stood out to me more than the others. This was because of the effect of balance it had and how well it did it.

What kind of camera did he use?
Brandt used a Pentax 6711 with only two fixed lenses.
What were his reasons for taking the photos?
His purpose for taking the photos was that most photography of animals are filled with drama or action and he wants to put them in a state of being.
What is his hope by taking these types of photos?
He fears that one day he won't be able to take these types of photos and wishes to do it while he can.
Quote
What I am interested in is showing the animals simply in the state of Being.

The Story

I think the story is of what it was titled as, students feeding the homeless.
Action and Emotion

It has the best actions an emotions because it is something that can't be posed as easily.
Filling the Frame

This image fills the frame the best to me because it has very little blank areas.

Why did you pick this photo?
I chose this photo because it seemed interesting to me about how it has us looking through something.
What rules of photography are evident in the photo?
This photo is a perfect example of simplicity because of the plain background.

Where do you think you could take photos like the one you look at today?
Academic classes most likely
Whose classroom would you like to visit to take photos in?
The last names of the teachers are Hayes, Broome, and Medina. The gym and library are places of interest too.
What will you do, as the photographer, to get amazing photos like you see today?
I would be silent and not interact with others.

40 Greatest Photos Ever

Vanderlie Almeida

I chose this photo because of the story behind it. The view finder was excellently placed as it shows both the dog and grave, not to close up. It was probably because it showed a dogs love for it's owner and the damage of the landslide that it made the top 40.
Jeff Roberts

This image caught my attention because of the amount the man lost. The view finder was placed well because it captures the people along with the carnage. This probably made the top 40 because it showed something that we see less often then people simply being rescued.
Ioana Moldovan

This image caught my eye because of the actions in it, first the kid gave the man a balloon which he held on to. The chose in view finder is good for both because it doesn't focus on on person, it shows the people handing him the balloon and most likely the reactions of other riot police. This probably caught the top 40 because it shows something nonviolent instead of most violent images of riots.
